Sir James Duddridge KCMG, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has welcomed the confirmation that Shoeburyness High School will receive a grant to cover the cost of the remedial works to remove Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) from the school.
Shoeburyness High School identified RAAC in their design and technology classrooms in September last year and have since had these classrooms closed off to pupils.
This follows the publication of the final list of 234 schools and colleges with confirmed cases of RAAC. Shoeburyness High School and 109 others will be receiving grant funding to remove RAAC from their buildings where works will typically be smaller in scale and have less disruption to pupils as they are completed.
Commenting, Sir James said:
“I am pleased that the grant has been made available to Shoeburyness High School to undertake the remedial works needed to remove the RAAC to make their design and technology classrooms safe for pupils.
“I know the staff at Shoeburyness High School have worked hard to mitigate the impact on students who have been affected by the identification of RAAC. I hope now with the certainly around the funding secured, work can be undertaken at pace to ensure students will have access to the affected classrooms once again."
