A statement from James Duddridge MP, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, regarding the rail strikes:
"By pressing ahead with today’s rail strikes, the unions have chosen to hit hardworking families in the pocket at the worst possible time.
"Our nurses, teachers, cleaners, and all those unable to work from home now find themselves having to pay out for an alternative way to work.
"Not only that, but today’s industrial action, backed by the Labour frontbench, also impacts those relying on a train to get to a hospital appointment, take their GCSE and A-Level exams, or care for a loved one too.
"The unions must come to a sensible compromise for the good of the British people and the rail workforce."
