Southend MPs James Duddridge and Sir David Amess held a virtual meeting with the Aviation Minister on Monday, where a number of concerns regarding the impact of coronavirus pandedmic on Southend Airport were raised.
The recent announcement by easyJet to start a consultation into the closure of its Southend base was one of the issues raised.
In response, Minister Kelly Tolhurst MP said the Government would help the airport in whatever way it could and more importantly support the 185 Southend easyJet employees.
The Minister also stressed the importance of regional airports and provided reassurances that she very much wanted Southend Airport to continue to operate viably and contribute to regional transport networks. She also highlighted the opportunities for the airport that would be provided by the United Kingdom leaving the European Union.
On night flights, the Minister agreed to look at what could be done to ensure they did not impact on the health and wellbeing of local residents.
The Minister also said she would find time in the near future to visit the airport.
