Local firms who have gone to great efforts to get their businesses back open safely have been praised by their Member of Parliament.
James Duddridge MP welcomed the social distancing measures the town's restaurants, cafes, pubs, shops and attractions had in place as he visited businesses on Friday, 10th July.
This included Adventure Island, one of Southend's largest attractions, which has since re-opened its doors to customers after Government restrictions were eased at the beginning of the month.
James was able to see the measures that had been put in place, such as hand sanitising stations and one-way systems, as he was shown around by the amusement park's boss Philip Miller MBE.
The MP for Rochford and Southend East said:
"I know it has been a real struggle for our local businesses over the past few months, and I am pleased to see the lengths so many of our shops, restaurants and attractions have gone to get their firms back open safely.
"The tourism and hospitality industries are so important to Southend and I welcome the Government's support to those re-opening including VAT reductions and initiatives such as the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme.
"Southend is once again open, and I hope those who can will now have the confidence to get out and support local businesses."
