More residents and businesses in Southend will soon benefit from full fibre connectivity as work to future-proof the town’s digital connectivity reaches its first anniversary.
James Duddridge MP was updated on CityFibre’s project to reach almost all residents and businesses in the Borough with a future-proof network and gigabit-speed broadband services as he visited a live dig site currently taking place in Whittingham Avenue.
The Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East met Aideen Sadler, CityFibre’s City Manager for Southend-on-Sea, as well as workers installing the state-of-the-art full fibre network on Friday (3rd July 2020).
The project began in June 2019 with the Eastwood Park and Progress Road industrial areas first to benefit.
Construction has since been rolled out across Southend, with the completion of works expected by 2022.
Speaking after the visit, James said:
“I am sure those who have had to work from home over the last few months will know all too well the importance of being able to access fast broadband speeds. This project will enable households and business across Southend to access gigabit speeds, putting our town at the forefront of the digital revolution, and I am pleased to see it is progressing well.”
Aideen Sadler, City Manager for Southend-on-Sea at CityFibre, said:

One year on since the build began, this investment is more critical than ever with an increasing number of people working from home, accessing e-health and keeping in touch virtually with loved ones.
“As our build continues, it is essential that all parts of Southend’s community have access to our full fibre network as we continue to expand it, helping the area to recover socially and economically.”
