James Duddridge MP has backed a nationwide campaign to encourage more people in Southend and Rochford to enjoy the physical and social benefits of swimming.
The #LoveSwimming campaign is encouraging people to take a dip at a local pool such as at Garons or at Shoeburyness Leisure Centre.
According to Swim England statistics, 81 percent of people aged over 11 can swim and more than 7,000,000 of us go swimming every week - making it one of the most popular participation sports in the UK.
And the number of women, older adults and people with disabilities or long-term health conditions actively swimming has also increased, according to research from Sport England’s Active Lives survey.
James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East said:
“With great pools here in Southend, I was pleased to team up with Swim England today and share why I #LoveSwimming.
“Swimming can give a real boost to a person's physical and mental health and I would encourage constituents of all ages to head down to the pool and take a dip!”
Swim England CEO Jane Nickerson said:
“2019 marks our 150th anniversary and as part of the celebrations we want even more people to be able to enjoy the water and all the benefits that being active in the water brings with it.
“Working with our partners, the #LoveSwimming campaign is a great way of highlighting how much fun the water can offer. We’re very grateful to James Duddridge MP for his support.”
