James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, visited the Southend Magistrates Court last Friday.
During his visit James discussed the role the Magistrates Court has in tackling anti-social behaviour in Southend. The Magistrates Court assured James that they are indeed using the full range of powers they have to help the police tackle anti-social behaviour.
James said,
"I am pleased to receive reassurance from the Magistrates Court that they are indeed using the full range of powers they have to ensure that those who are found guilty are dealt with in a proportionate manner."
James also discussed the need for more people in South Essex to become magistrates.
James said,
"Being a Magistrate is a great way to serve your community. You will receive full training and will only need to serve a minimum of 12 sessions a year."
"As as a magistrate you will ensure that justice is served and that the community as a whole is a safe place to live."
"I encourage residents from all background to apply for this vital role."
