James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has asked a question during the Urgent Question session yesterday in relation to the Dame Laura Cox report.
The report from Dame Laura Cox reveled a number of allegations about the behavioir of Members of Parliament towards parliamentary staff. This included sexual harassment and bullying.
During the session James asked the leader of the House of Commons, Andrea Leadsom,
"This a disturbing report which highlights a number of unacceptable behaviours."
"Page 64 lists some of them. Mocking, mimicking, deliberating belittling in front of other members, making offensive personal comments about appearance, belittling someones junior status, making lengthy and humiliating ti-raids of criticism and abuse in front of colleagues."
"How can we encourage Mr Speaker to stop this behaviour?"
The Leader of the House of Commons then responded by saying,
"My Honourable friend will know that there are differing views around the implications of Dame Laura Cox's report . What she is essentially urging is that all Honourable Members will allow senior management to consider not only their own views on their own involvement bu also what action needs to be taken by the senior management to ensure change is forthcoming."
