Recently, we have seen a number of announcement concerning the improvement of transport in and around our town. In this week’s newspapers it had been announced that Southend Borough Council is supporting a new relief road to the east of the town. As the Member of Parliament for the area I will of course support any application made by Southend Borough Council to help relieve the congestion currently experienced both going in and out of our town. Whether this be in the form of a relief road, a new Shoebury Bypass or further investment in our current road network. With the works at the key junctions along the A127 taking place and the long term vision being discussed in the Council I am hopeful that the issues with congestion will be alleviated.
However, it is important to note that our roads are not the only way that we are able to travel in, our and around our town. In Southend East alone we have 7 train stations serving thousands of commuters every day. Which is why I am pleased that Greater Anglia announced this week that a new fleet of carriages are set to be used on their lines making people’s daily commute more comfortable than ever before. There has also been an announcement this week from the Department for Transport that train stations can be nominated for funding to become more disability friendly.
On top of this Arriva is continuing to improve their carbon emissions helping to improve the air we all breathe on a daily basis. As I mentioned last week, the Thames Clipper is potentially looking at extending it’s service into Southend and cycling is becoming ever more popular in our area. It is clear to see that a lot in being done to improve our transport both around our town and going in and out of it.
