Last Saturday I had the privilege of delivering a cake to the hardworking volunteers who took part in the Beachwater clean-up event to show my appreciation.
This follows Southend’s efforts in Deliveroo’s beach clean-up scheme in June which saw the community collect more litter than any other seaside town. This demonstrates our commitment in protecting the natural environment and wildlife along our coastline.
Southend has a very strong community in which many take an active role in ensuring that our area is the best it can possibly be.
Beachwater is the Marine Conservation Society’s national beach cleaning and litter surveying programme, often organising events along Southend’s coastline and as I saw last week, the public are keen to make our beautiful seafront cleaner and litter-free.
It is great that the town’s local people have achieved and continue to do this and encourage more of our local community to improve the environment we live in.
I am pleased that Veolia too also cleans around 7 miles of beach in Southend every day and on busy weekends, 20 tonnes of litter and rubbish can be collected.
I welcome Southend Borough Council’s work in encouraging residents to take Veolia’s customer satisfaction survey about the services our local community receives, with the feedback used to help improve them.
It is vital that constituents’ voices are heard and this survey provides a great outlet for them to do so as well as expressing any other concerns.
I also recently took a trip on the Thames Clipper with other South Essex Members of Parliament, discussing an opportunity that would link Southend and central London with the waterbus service. This would not only deliver another commuter route into London but also boost Southend and the local town.
I am sure this will make a huge difference for residents in Southend and I hope you will join me in supporting this possibility.
If you have any questions or concerns that I may be of assistance with as your local Member of Parliament, please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected] or call my office on 01702 616135.
