Local MP James Duddridge Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East Attends Unveiling of the R A Jones clock in Southend High Street by the Worshipful, The Mayor of Southend.
Today we all have wrist watches or mobiles phones to check for the time but before these inventions, the best way to find the time quickly was to use a public clock, like R A Jones clock in our high street.
James Duddridge Said:
‘I was delighted to attend the unveiling of the R A Jones clock in the high street this morning and witness a piece of the towns’ history being restored to its former glory and re- taking its rightful place in the high-street. I would like to commend all those who contributed financially and also those who volunteered their time to raise funds. I would also like to thank Southend Borough council, Essex Heritage, Yours Clothing and Ros Southend Facebook Group who have all worked hard to ensure the clock takes back its rightful place in our high street. It is a great way to remember and pay tribute to one of the town’s most generous benefactors.’
