Local MP James Duddridge Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East Welcomes the News of Southend-on-Sea Borough Council Successful bid for £1.7 million in funding from the Department of Transport
James was delighted to be informed today by the Department of Transport that Southend Borough Council had won its bid to receive National Productivity Investment Funding to carry out improvements on Southend’s roads.
This funding is part of a government project to improve infrastructure across the country. Chris Grayling, the Minister for Transport, has described it as “an ambitious plan to increase much needed road capacity, boost economic development and improve road safety. It seeks to address many years of under-investment in England’s motorways and major trunk roads.”
James says:
“I am delighted to hear that my colleagues at the Department of Transport have allocated this funding to Southend. I’d like to thank Southend Borough council for all the hard work they put into the bid, and congratulate them on their success. This funding will help with important projects in Southend, such the planned improvement for local access to Southend town centre, its bus interchange and Southend Victoria and Southend Central stations.
These projects will improve air-quality in Southend, as well as support the Southend Central Area Action Plan which will deliver 7250 new jobs over the next five years.”
