James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, welcomes proposed improvements to tidal defences in Great Wakering.
The proposed repairs that are scheduled to begin during 2012 will see parts of a 5km defence strengthened between Pig’s Bay, north of Shoeburyness, and Havengore Bridge.
The Environment Agency will be carrying out the development works on erosion protection to the embankments and hope to complete these works at a time of year that will cause as little disruption as possible to the natural environment and the community.
James said
“I am delighted to see investment into the protection of our much needed flood defences.
“It is through visiting the local area and inspecting our defences that I am aware of the importance that we continue to maintain and develop the defences that protect residents, property and agricultural land which would otherwise be vulnerable in the event of a flood.
“We must do all we can to prevent a reoccurrence of the January 1953 floods and I welcome investment into the maintenance of our defences.”
