James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, attended Westminster Flu Day yesterday where he received the influenza vaccination.
During the 2009 winter season more people died from influenza and pneumonia than those who died with breast and prostate cancer.
If you are any of the following:
· A pregnant women
· People with long term health conditions that weaken the immune system such as cancer, asthma, diabetes etc.
· People over 65 years and
· Carers who look after vulnerable people
You have been identified as being ‘at risk’ and should seek immunisation.
James said
“It is important to raise awareness of how serious flu can be if contracted by somebody that falls into the at risk category. I encourage all of my constituents who are in the at risk group to be vaccinated.”
