James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend, recently signed The Sarfend Visitor’s Book. The book, which is kept at the RNLI Gift shop at the end of the pier was the idea of a former Southender, Brian Mendes, 79 who now lives in Canada.
The book has also been signed by Southend Mayor, Ann Holland and a number of other visitors to the Pier, including visitors from outside Southend.
James said
“On the morning I took a trip to the end of the Pier to sign the book and visit the RNLI was one of the coldest mornings of the year! The visitor’s book has already attracted messages from people from Manchester, not just Southenders. It is brilliant to read such positive comments about our town, not just from the residents but from the visitors.
“It was also a pleasure to meet Dave and Ruth, who run the gift shop. They are both so passionate about the Southend, the pier and the RNLI.”
