James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, attended the official opening of Futures Community College. The college was officially opened by Lord Hill of Oareford. Lord Baker, Neil Bates Chief Executive, Southend Mayor Ann Holland, Cllr Roger Hadley and Deputy Youth Mayor Alex Bright were also in attendance.
Futures Community College is located on the former Thorpe Bay High School site and has undergone radical transformation since 2005. Not only has the site undergone an architectural transformation, the curriculum offered to pupils has also been transformed.
The college offers vocational studies alongside academic subjects including english, mathematics and science. Following the official opening, guests were invited to have a tour of the college including seeing the students taking part in beauty treatments and construction.
James said
“Futures Community College is remarkable. It is one of the first facilities of its kind and I am delighted to have such a facility in Southend. Echoing the words of Lord Hill, this is potentially the beginning of something very profound that will sweep across the country. Futures College is a pioneer.
I look forward to seeing Futures developing into one of the most popular colleges in Essex and seeing the talent that is nurtured at this truly inspirational facility.”
