James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, supports the Wear it Pink campaign. Wear it Pink day is being held on Friday 29 October 2010 and Breast Cancer Campaign are trying to obtain support from schools, colleges and businesses throughout the country. Participants are encouraged to wear an item of pink in support of the campaign and each donate £2 to fund innovative world-class breast cancer research.
In 2009, over one million people took part in the Wear it Pink campaign. The money raised helped fund the research to improve survival rates for the one in nine women who experience breast cancer during their lifetime. Every year in the UK, over 45,500 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women. Although it is rare, men can also suffer from breast cancer, with around 300 men diagnosed each year.
James said
“I am delighted to take part in, and raise awareness of, the Wear it Pink campaign. In 2006 I campaigned to Save Southend Cancer Centre and I will continue to support the Breast Cancer Campaign, Wear it Pink, Cancer Research and other cancer charities. I would urge my constituents to support this campaign and Wear it Pink on Friday.”
