As 2017 draws to a close I have been looking back at the year and looking ahead at what is to come in 2018.
This year has, as always, been very busy, more so than expected with the snap General Election where 23,013 people voted for me, up from 20,241 which I was truly delighted with. I represent all my constituents regardless of how you may have voted and am looking forward to continue representing Rochford and Southend East in 2018.
Southend High Street has seen the return of the historic R. A. Jones Clock and as we bring a piece of the town’s past back, ensuring we remember our town’s history, we also look to the future. It’s a shame when we see much loved places such as Ravens close down, however we need to plan for a high street of the future and 2018 will see more investment in residential, educational and leisure properties as well as more street market and other innovative retail trials.
Southend Airport saw £34million investment from the Government in February and as planning permission recently granted we will surely see continued success, already awarded the happiest airport globally.
In addition to regular surgeries held at my Southend office and occasionally in cafes around the constituency, this year my team and I decided to hold a mobile bus surgery, coming directly to constituents, this was enjoyable and proved a great success.
Essex leads the way, having the United Kingdom’s first joint Police and Fire Service Commissioner in Roger Hirst. A great way to combine management, ensuring more funding is used on service to the public. If any constituent has concerns or would like to hear what Roger Hirst has to say he is hosting a public meeting at the Civic Centre on 23rd January at 6.30pm.
There is great investment planned in our area, with £100million towards local rail services and of course a great benefit for Southend Hospital is the extra £41million Government funding.
I wish everyone a Happy New Year. As always if you would like to contact me please email [email protected]
