An MP has offered his support to a humanitarian aid appeal designed to help Ukrainians displaced by the Russian invasion.
James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, backed the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal run by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and is encouraging local people looking to support those affected by the crisis to do the same.
It's as the Government launched its largest ever aid-match contribution - matching the first £20 million donated to the fund. The UK's overall aid support for Ukraine during the current crisis stands at £220 million.
Commenting, James said:
"We've all seen the devastation in Ukraine caused by Putin's invasion and I know many residents want to do their bit to support the millions of Ukrainians affected by this terrible crisis.
"The Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal run by the Disasters Emergency Committee is providing food, water, shelter and medical assistance in Ukraine and in neighbouring countries.
"The UK Government is matching the first £20 million donated to this fund, so I would encourage those who are looking to support the people of Ukraine to do it via this fund."
DEC charities are in Ukraine and neighbouring countries meeting the needs of all refugees and displaced people:
- £30 could provide essential hygiene supplies for three people for one month
- £50 could provide blankets for four families
- £100 could provide emergency food for two families for one month
