Local charities have received more than £600,000 of additional Government support during the coronavirus pandemic, new figures show.
Twenty-eight charities in Rochford and Southend East have so far received £625,164 from the £200m Coronavirus Community Support fund alone.
The fund is part of the Government’s £750 million pledge to ensure voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations can continue their vital work during the COVID outbreak – one of the most generous in the world.
Age Concern Southend-on-Sea and Southend’s Citizens Advice Bureau are among those who have benefited.
In September, James visited Southend Samaritans, another recipient of the funding, where he met Director Colin Hill (pictured).
James Duddridge MP, the Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, said:
“In this unprecedented year, local charities really have risen to the challenge, playing a vital role in our response to coronavirus.
“Over the years, I have seen first-hand just how much our local community benefits from the charity sector, with the pandemic highlighting this further, so I am pleased many organisations in Southend and Rochford have received this additional funding so they can continue their important work during this difficult period.”
