Sir James Duddridge KCMG, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, recently visited Spire Wellesley Hospital following the retention of a “Good” overall rating from the CQC earlier this year.
Sir James toured the hospital and met with teams from nursing and housekeeping. Richard Coggings, Hospital Director, showed Sir James their Platinum Continuous Advancement Programme Award, which Spire Wellesley was the first hospital in the UK to receive for outstanding housekeeping and cleanliness standards.
Sir James was keen to learn about the Spire Nursing Apprenticeship Scheme, which employs five apprentices at Spire Wellesley. Across the country, the scheme employs around 160 apprentices, with 25 new apprentices joining later this year.
Commenting following the visit, Sir James said:
“I was really impressed by the team and service provided to patients at Spire Wellesley on my visit. While I missed the chance to speak to their apprentices, I am pleased that Spire Wellesley is keen to provide good employment opportunities through their Nursing Apprenticeship Scheme.”
Richard Coggings, Hospital Director, said:
“Patient safety is at the heart of everything we do, and we were very proud of some of the key findings from our recent CQC report, especially the ‘Outstanding’ for being well-led. We are investing in high-quality facilities for patients and local people, which will help us meet the demand for care across Southend and the wider region”.
