Sir James Duddridge KCMG, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, is to run his fifth London Marathon in April for Southend RNLI.
Sir James has previously completed the iconic 26.2 miles for a number of local and national charities. Last year, he raised £1,760 for Diabetes UK, bringing Sir James’ total raised through marathons to £9,429.
The RNLI provide a twenty-four-hour search and rescue service across the United Kingdom and Ireland. As a charity, they depend upon donations to continue saving lives at sea.
The Southend-on-Sea RNLI Station has two boathouses, one at each end of the Pier, and is the busiest all-volunteer coastal station in the country, averaging over 100 shouts a year.
Commenting, Sir James said:
“I am proud to be running my fifth London Marathon on behalf of Southend RNLI.
“In Southend, we have the busiest all-volunteer coastal station in the country, operating twenty-four-seven, three-hundred and sixty-five days a year from both ends of the Pier.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of the London Marathon, and every pound I raise will go directly to Southend RNLI to provide them with funds to continue their amazing work.”
