Sir James Duddridge KCMG, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has raised £3593.88 for Southend RNLI after completing his fifth London Marathon.
Sir James completed the iconic 26.2-mile route in five hours and thirty-four minutes. Each year Sir James runs the London Marathon on behalf of charities. With the total from this year added, Sir James has raised a total of £13,022.88 for local and national causes.
To support his fundraising efforts, Sir James undertook a charity work experience shift at local travel insurance brokers, InsureandGo, at the end of March, helping raise £1600. This year, Sir James broke his record of moneys raised for charity, set in 2019 by £186.88.
Running alongside his Parliamentary colleagues, their combined fundraising efforts totalled £68,492.76 for good causes, such as Southend RNLI, Barnardo’s, St John’s Hospice Lancaster, Geezabreak, Cancer Research UK, Royal Surrey Charity and Maggie’s Centres.
Following crossing the finish line, Sir James said:
“I am so proud that I was able to raise over £3,500 for Southend RNLI, and I would like to take the chance to thank all those who have supported me this year, helping me to raise my largest ever figure!
“All donations will go directly to support the day-to-day running of the Southend-on-Sea Lifeboat Station, the busiest all-volunteer coastal station in the country!
“Running the Brighton Marathon at the start of the month helped bolster my training this year, and I am glad I could beat my target time! Now that I have crossed the finish line for the 2023 London Marathon, my eyes are set on next year’s!"
