Sir James Duddridge KCMG, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, welcomes that since 2010, 9,050 new apprenticeships have been created in Rochford and Southend East.
Each one of these apprenticeships has helped Rochford and Southend students develop their skills, improve their earnings, and establish long and successful careers.
With £2.3 billion of extra funding announced to further improve the quality of apprenticeships over the next two years, the government is committed to improving skills and productivity in our economy.
To start National Apprenticeship Week, on Monday, 6th February, Sir James attended the Parliamentary Apprenticeships Fair, where he met with a constituent, Macy, who is currently on a public relations apprenticeship with Engineering UK.
Sir James said:
“Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity for students to learn the skills and vital knowledge they need on the job, and all while being paid.
“I am pleased that over 9,000 new apprenticeships have been created in Rochford and Southend East since 2010, with each one meaning another student building the skills and knowledge they need for a long and successful career.”
Commenting during National Apprenticeship Week, the Secretary of State for Education, the Rt Hon. Gillian Keegan MP said:
“My apprenticeship was my golden ticket. It gave me a unique insight into how a business operated, from the shop floor to the boardroom. I learnt the skills that businesses truly value and it launched my career in international business.
“This National Apprenticeship week I hope more people learn about the incredible opportunities available in everything from engineering to healthcare. Whatever career goals you aspire to, they can be achieved through an apprenticeship which can take you all the way up to masters degree level”.
