Sir James Duddridge KCMG, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has asked the Prime Minister today to commit to continuing support for energy bills to households next winter.
The government’s Energy Price Guarantee has helped reduce household bills by about £900 this winter, with the Energy Bill Support Scheme bringing the total support available to £1,300 for each household.
Asking the Prime Minister, Sir James said:
“Constituents in Southend and Rochford welcome the Energy Bill Support Scheme that’s helped ninety-nine per cent of households around the United Kingdom with rising fuel prices despite Putin’s barbaric war in Ukraine.
Can the Prime Minister assure my constituents and indeed this House, that he is committed to helping with the cost of living, not only this winter, but next winter.”
Responding, the Prime Minister, the Rt Hon. Rishi Sunak MP said:
“My hon. Friend is absolutely right about this government’s commitment to supporting all families with the cost of living.
This winter with around £900 of support. The next year, as the Energy Price Guarantee evolves, it will still be there to support families, with around £500 of support, and this comes on top of record increases in the National Living Wage, worth about £1600, and supporting our pensioners and the most vulnerable by inflating their benefits and pensions with inflation.”
