Southend is set to receive more than £228,000 of additional Government funding to help the high street re-open safely and successfully after lockdown.
The cash boost, which is part of the £56 million Welcome Back Fund, has been welcomed by James Duddridge MP.
Councils can use the funding to hold street markets and festivals, boost the look and feel of the high street with more seating and planting, and install new signage.
Additional funding has also been made available to support coastal areas, enabling them to welcome holidaymakers back in the coming months.
Commenting, James, MP for Rochford and Southend East, said:
“I know this has been a very difficult 12 months for our high street and local businesses, and I am determined to secure the funding our town needs to recover from this pandemic.
“As we move to the next stage of our roadmap out of lockdown, I’m really pleased that Southend is going to receive an additional £228,098 as part of the Government’s Welcome Back Fund - which will help get our high street back open safely and successfully.”
