James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has welcomed the new reduced rail fares for young people.
The new railcard, which is now available to people aged 26-30 allows 4.5 million people to purchase train tickets with a discount of 1/3.
James said,
"Within Rochford and Southend East there are many people who commute into London on a daily basis. Many of these are under the age of 30. I am pleased that this government has taken action to make train travel more affordable."
The Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, has also recently announced plans to introduce a 16 to 17 railcard that will release this September in time for the new school year. This railcard will allow children aged 16 and 17 to purchase train tickets with a 50% discount.
James said,
"For many parents it is becoming too expensive to send their child to a good school by train this can result in children from poorer backgrounds falling behind in their studies due to not being able to get to school. This new railcard will allow 1.2 million young people across the UK access to affordable rail travel so they are able to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered to them."
