James Duddridge MP visited a Southend casino on Friday, 24th July, to see first-hand the social distancing measures that had been put in place ahead of the venue's re-opening next week.
Like all casinos in England, the Grosvenor in Church Road is able to welcome back customers for the first time since lockdown began on 1st August, subject to the Government's Covid-secure guidelines.
General Manager Louise Whittle showed the Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East how the casino had adapted its operation to help customers safely return.
Plastic screens will keep players apart at the tables and machines, a one-way system has been introduced and customers will only play with one set of gaming chips which will be sanitised before and after use, James was told.
Following the visit, the MP said:
"I know this has been a very difficult few months for our casinos in Southend and across the country, who have been unable to open since lockdown began in March.
"I would like to thank Louise and her team for inviting me down to see how they have adapted to the 'new normal', and I wish them every success with their re-opening next weekend."
