James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, is disappointed that the relocation of Rochford and Shoeburyness sorting offices will be going ahead without any local provision for undelivered mail collection.
James received the notification in September that the delivery offices in Rochford and Shoeburyness would be closed and all undelivered mail would be returned to Short Street, Southend. James met with Moya Greene, Chief Executive of Royal Mail in Parliament in February to discuss possible solutions for undelivered items to be collected locally. James then wrote to Moya Greene following the meeting, again urging Royal Mail to consider sourcing local solutions for the residents.
James has received confirmation today that the original proposals will be go ahead and there will not be a local collection facility available to residents.
James said
“I am very disappointed that Royal Mail has decided not to offer a local collection facility for the residents of Rochford and Shoeburyness. I understand there are alternative re-delivery options available but I was urging Royal Mail to provide the traditional collection option for those residents that would find this easier and more convenient.
I will be making further representations to Royal Mail, asking them to reconsider and work with the local community to source a local solution.”
