James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has written to Cllr David Finch, L:eader of Essex County Council, calling for him to look at all available options to keep library services in Great Wakering.
In his letter James said,
"Should the library in Great Wakering close this could cause many residents who rely on these services to become isolated and force them to travel to either Rochford or Shoeburyness to access services many miles away."
"I have spoken with a number of residents in relation to this matter including local Councillors Daniel Efde and Jo McPherson. It is clear from these conversations that there is a large portion of the local community that rely on the services offered at Great Wakering library, and as such they should remain in the local area."
In his letter James also offers an alternative to closing the library entirely in Great Wakering, suggesting that the services be moved to the old school house along Great Wakering High Street. he said,
"Should changes be required I would implore you to consider moving these ley services into the old school making use of this empty building whilst ensuring these services remain in Great Wakering."
James also pleaded with the leader of Essex County Council to look at all available options to keep the services in Great Wakering.
