James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has written to the Chief Executive Office of Debenhams, Sir Ian Cheshire, seeking reassurance around their Store in Southend.
It was recently announced by the department store chain that due to their recent heavy loses they would have to close 50 stores across the country in the next 5 years.
In his letter to the Chief Executive James described the store, based in the Royals Shopping Centre along Southend High Street, as 'a large and important employer in my constituency.' He then sought reassurance that the Southend store is not one earmarked for closure.
James said,
"The Southend Store has been a key part of our high street for many years and it would seem odd not to see it there. It plays an important role both for our local economy and employment. Which is why I have sought reassurance that our store is not earmarked for closure."
