James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, is raising awareness of funding secured by Southend Council for 50 new apprentices.
Southend Council’s ONTrack Team has just announced the funding, which will enable them to subsidise the salaries for 50 more apprentices, with the apprenticeships open to 16 to 18 year olds and 19 to 24 year olds who are not currently employed.
This new funding will enable Southend Council to assist financially with the first year salary costs of apprentices by £1500, with half of the funding being made available at the start of the apprenticeship and the remaining after the apprentice has been in employment for 6 months.
The apprentices will be employed on a full time basis for a minimum of 1 year, and training for those less than 19 years old will be supported by the National Apprenticeship Service.
James said
“Apprenticeships are extremely valuable to young people in providing them with specific training and practical work experience, whilst assisting in reducing youth unemployment. It is great news that Southend Council is providing further apprenticeships as it will enable more young people who are not currently employed to demonstrate and develop their existing skills and talents in a working environment’’.
