James Duddridge MP is urging residents to "stick at it" and keep up their efforts to suppress Covid-19 in Southend-on-Sea.
He made the plea after a recent meeting with the town’s director of public health.
James was given an update on the town’s response to Covid-19 and the vaccine roll-out during a virtual meeting with Krishna Ramkhelawon on Friday.
Latest figures show the 7-day rate of positive cases in Southend has fallen to 245.2 per 100,000 people, down from 463.3 per 100,000 people the week before.
It comes after a new large Covid-19 vaccination centre opened at the Cliffs Pavilion on Thursday.
However, despite signs that Covid-19 may be on the retreat, James urged people to stick at it and not let their guard down.
Commenting, the MP for Rochford and Southend East said:
“I would like to thank Krishna for taking the time to meet with me for an update on Southend’s response to Covid-19 and the vaccine roll-out.
“Things appear to be moving in the right direction, with infections falling and the vaccination programme accelerating, however, it is important that we stick at it and not let our guard down.
“My plea to residents would be to keep following the rules and continue to play your part to protect the NHS and ultimately save lives. If you do have to go outside for your vaccine, essentials or a test, remember the basics – hands, face, space.”
