James Duddridge MP has met with a senior police officer to discuss policing in Southend and the action being taken to tackle violent crime in the town.
Acting Chief Inspector Ian Hughes updated the MP for Rochford and Southend East during a meeting at Southend Police Station on Friday (17th January).
Reducing violent crime and new local projects to break the cycle of re-offending were among the topics discussed.
James was also informed of the successful work the force has been doing to tackle burglaries, robberies and vehicle crime.
The pair met ahead of a visit from the Home Secretary on Saturday (18th January).
Priti Patel joined James, Chief Inspector Hughes and the Town Centre Team on a foot patrol in the High Street.
Speaking afterwards, James said:
“Ensuring our streets are kept safe is a priority and I thank Chief Inspector Ian Hughes for taking the time to update me on the work he and his team are doing to reduce violent crime and re-offending rates in Southend.
"It was also a pleasure to welcome Home Secretary Priti Patel to our town on Saturday and see firsthand how Essex Police is stamping out County Lines to keep our town safe.”
