James Duddridge MP has paid tribute to those who lost their lives protecting the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands.
It comes as people from across the United Kingdom and the Islands mark the 40th anniversary of the end of the Falklands Conflict – of which 255 service personnel lost their lives.
To this day, the Falkland Islands remain a proud member of the UK family, with 99.8% of Islanders voting in favour of remaining a self-governing UK Overseas Territory in 2013.
James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, recently met Falklands veterans attending a special Beating Retreat ceremony by the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines alongside Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Commenting, James said:
“This week marks the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Islands, and it is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made during the 1982 conflict.
“We will never forget those who fought to protect the sovereignty of the Islands, which remain a proud member of the UK family to this day.”
