James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has signed a letter with his fellow Essex MPs to the Chancellor of the Exchequer raising their concerns about future spending of the Police Precept.
This year Roger Hirst, the Police, Crime and Fire Commissioner for Essex rose the police precept in order to fund 150 new front line officers in Essex. However, Essex MPs are concerned that any future money raised would fund changes in pensions and not front line officers.
James said,
"I am pleased to have signed a letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer along with my fellow Essex MPs highlighting our concerns that any raise in the Police Precept will go to funding changes in the pension and not on front line officers."
"The police do an excellent job and we should support them by ensuring the money raised to fund their front line officers is protected."
