James Duddridge MP has been shown the art of brick making using clay sourced locally from Southchurch.
The MP for Rochford and Southend East, attended the brick-making workshop at the Old Waterworks site in Westcliff on Monday afternoon.
The project is being run by local artist Emma Edmondson.
The bricks and tiles made at the site will form a permanent public artwork, celebrating Southchurch’s rich brickfield history.
Commenting, James said:
“I would like to thank Emma for inviting me to the Old Waterworks to learn more about the brickfield history of Southchurch and her brick-making project.
“All the bricks are being made by hand, using clay from Southchurch, and will form a permanent public art display once completed, which I look forward to seeing later this year!”
