James Duddridge MP has launched a new petition to relax the summer dog beach ban in Southend – but needs the help of residents to make it happen.
The MP for Rochford and Southend East hopes to change the current rule which bans dogs from the town’s beaches between May 1st and September 30th.
Instead he wants dogs to be permitted on some of Southend's beaches all year round.
The campaign forms part of James’ new six-point plan for Rochford and Southend East, including more funding for the police, NHS and schools.
James said:
“Southend’s wonderful coastline should be accessible to everybody who works, visits or lives here.
“We are a town of dog lovers and our pets are just as much part of the family as anybody else.
"Dog walking comes with a whole host of benefits. It increases a person's physical activity, helping improve both their physical and mental health.
“That’s why I am calling on Southend Borough Council to relax the current summer ban and permit dogs on part of the beach during non-peak hours."
