James Duddridge Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, Visits Estuary Housing Association’s supported living scheme, Leyland Court in Southchurch and shows support for ‘It Starts at Home Campaign’
Estuary Housing is joining hundreds of Housing Associations across the Country to support the National Housing Federation’s ‘It Starts at Home Campaign’ as uncertainty surrounds the future funding of supported housing. The National Housing Federation and its members are campaigning to persuade the Government to commit to ensuring that every person who needs extra support has a home that meets their needs.
As part of this Campaign, James Duddridge MP visited Estuary Housing Association’s supported living scheme, Leyland Court in Southchurch last week Friday. James chatted with residents living at Leyland and heard their positive stories about how they have gained independence through supported housing.
Connie Green, aged 82, said
‘Moving to Leyland Court has given me the confidence that I needed and it has also given my family confidence. I have a completely new lifestyle and I am so happy here, this is a great place to be!’
George Kieffer, Chair of Estuary Housing Association said:
“Leyland Court is a scheme with 24 independent flats for elderly people. We support the Campaign as it really is crucial for the funding to continue to ensure that people like Connie and others can be supported in their homes. We believe that supported living makes life better for people and creates opportunities for them and is better value for money for the taxpayer than the alternatives.”
James Duddridge Said:
“After visiting residents at Leyland court, it was clear to me of the vital role these schemes play in helping people to live independently and with dignity. With that in mind, the future of Supporting Living funding will be debated in Westminster Hall on Tuesday 10 October at 4pm, and I will be sure to attend.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents and staff alike at Leyland court for being so welcoming and opening their doors to me.”
