Local Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East James Duddridge Pays Tribute to the Hard Work Done by Essex Police and Fire Service and urges others to follow the Example of Essex.
James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East, participated in questions to
the Home Secretary, Amber Rudd, at the House of Commons today. James used the
opportunity to pay tribute to the hard work done by the Essex Police, Fire and Crime
Commissioner, Roger Hirst. The Minister, Nick Hurd, thanked James for his question
and highlighted the leadership of Essex in providing an efficient service in both
fighting crime and fires.
Essex Police were rated highly in a recent report from Her Majesty’s Inspector of
Constabulary (HMIC).The report praised the force for being the cheapest police force
per head in the country and for also effectively fighting crime.
James said:
Could I urge the Minister to look at the example of Essex where the PCC is now
responsible for both of those entities and is able to drive forward efficiencies,
efficiencies which would be better spent if rolled out elsewhere?
The Minister said:
Can I thank my honourable friend for giving me chance to again congratulate the
leadership of Essex and in particular Roger Hirst for seizing the opportunity enabled
by this government to bring together the governing of fire and police not just in the
name of better accountability and transparency but also the opportunity to continue
to pursue savings and efficiencies on behalf of the taxpayer.
