James Duddridge, MP for Rochford and Southend East, is delighted to welcome the announcement that Southend Council has been awarded £127,000 by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government toward developing housing in Southend. James has lobbied the Ministry over the past few months to assist Southend Council with this bid.
This funding comes from the Ministry’s Planning Delivery Fund, which assessed bids submitted by councils and awarded money to those which were of ‘high quality’. Southend was awarded money from the ‘promoting innovation’ fund, demonstrating that this scheme was inventive and effective.
In addition, a further £871,000 has been awarded from the joint working fund for a plan to deliver housing which was submitted together with other local authorities, including Thurrock, Basildon, Brentwood, Castle Point and Rochford. This funding will allow the local councils work together to more effectively meet South Essex’s housing needs.
James said:
“I am delighted that Southend will be receiving this funding, and that my efforts lobbying the government in this regard have paid off. I’d like to thank everyone on the council involved in this bid for their hard work in applying for this funding, and will look forward to see this ambitious and innovative housing plan come to life”.
Dominic Raab MP, Minister of State for Housing and Planning Said:
“This additional funding will ensure that resources are available to deliver on the ambitions set out in the scheme proposal. I look forward to seeing the ambitions fulfilled so that planning supports new homes where they are needed”
