This week we heard the very sad news that Carillion was going into administration. On January 15, David Lidington, Minister for the Cabinet Office, made a statement in the House of Commons.
Like many of my colleagues, I was concerned about what this meant for my constituents and constituents in broader Essex.
I asked the Minister for continual communication through Carillion’s mitigation process for the benefit of service users and employees in my constitution to which he agreed. I would like to reassure my constituents that I will be continuously monitiring the situation and send out updates as and when they are available.
In other business, I had the opportunity to attend War Child’s parliamentary reception which sought to outline the action needed to support the mental health and wellbeing of children affected by war. This issue is one that is close to my heart, considering what these children have lived through, it is important that investment in mental health and wellbeing of children affected by war. This issue is one that is close to my heart, considering what these children have lived through, it is important that investment in mental health for children is given a much higher priority.
I was also able to show my support for the ‘Clearly Campaign’ which works to bring clear vision to the 2.5 billion people worldwide. Shockingly, a third of the world’s population suffers from poor vision, which is the world’s largest unmet disability.
Outside Parliament, I have been keeping myself busy and some of you might have seen me out and about recently with Daniel Nelson, the candidate for Southchurch, Gary Lowen, candidate for Milton and James Moyies, the candidate for Thorpe.
I plan to continue to support all the Conservative candidates running for election on May 3 and look forward to meeting some of you on the doorstep. I would encourage you to stop us if you see us out and about in the coming weeks and months.
