Sir James Duddridge KCMG, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has welcomed ‘Excellent’ ratings for the quality of bathing water across several of Southend’s beaches.
As the bathing water season starts, the Environment Agency takes up to twenty samples from each bathing site from mid-May until the end of September. Results from these samples are published on the Swimfo website, enabling people to learn more about the quality of their bathing waters.
Within the constituency of Rochford and Southend East, Southend Three Shells, Thorpe Bay, Shoeburyness and Shoebury East, all received ‘Excellent’ ratings, with Southend Jubilee receiving a ‘Good’ rating.
Commenting, Sir James said:
“It is fantastic news that the majority of the bathing waters in my constituency have once again received ‘Excellent’ ratings from the Environment Agency, with Southend’s beaches once again open for visitors.
“There is still work to do to bring Jubilee beach up to an ‘Excellent’ rating, but as the weather starts to warm up, I encourage people to check Swimfo for the most up-to-date information about our bathing waters.”
