Following a number of enquiries regarding the proposed Machine Games Duty, and a meeting with industry representatives, James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has written to Justine Greening MP, Economic Secretary to the Treasury to clarify the reform. To the Secretary, James highlighted various concerns with the new duty with regards to businesses like Southend’s iconic arcades.
On 24th May 2011, the Government opened the consultation on the Machine Games Duty, and James recommends that concerned businesses, groups, and people respond to the consultation via letter or email.
The consultation ends on 26th July 2011.
James said,
“The arcades of Southend are staples of our local economy and an essential part of our vibrant community. I urge all businesses and individuals to respond to the consultation either via email or letter. It is the best way to effectively influence policy. In turn, I will make sure to keep our community updated on any developments in Westminster”
