James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, issues a statement regarding the teacher strikes planned for Thursday 30th June 2011.
“It is unfortunate that teachers have decided to take industrial action at this time. Both parents and pupils are the losers as a result of the teacher strikes, particularly working parents, single parent households and those without family support who will have to take a day off from work, unpaid, to look after their children.
“Unfortunately the Government has to reform pensions as a result of the horrendous financial situation inherited from the previous labour Government and also the increased life expectancy of adults not just in Rochford and Southend East, but also nationally.”
