James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, confirms that the Big Lottery Fund has extended the funding for the Heroes Return programme.
Heroes Return 2 is a programme allowing WW2 veterans, who saw active service in WW2, to visit the sites on which they served to mark the anniversary of events that led to the end of WW2.
The scheme has been extended until 31 January 2012, to allow veterans to take full advantage of this opportunity.
Since 2004 over 50,000 people have made commemorative trips with funding from BIG’s Heroes Return schemes with grants totaling over £24 million. Grants are given for travel and accommodation abroad and to attend commemorative events in the UK. Carers are also paid for and travel must take place before end of December 2011.
James said
“I am delighted that this scheme has been extended until 2012. I would strongly urge anyone eligible for funding to visit www.biglotteryfund.org.uk and submit an application.”
