James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has received a letter of thanks from Chris Simpkins, Director General of The Royal British Legion following amendments to the Armed Forces Bill which ensure the Armed Forces Covenant is honoured.
The Director General explained that the promise the Prime Minister made on HMS Ark Royal on 25th June 2010 to enshrine the Covenant in law was powerful, clear and sincere. There is a continued belief that the Covenant in law could be done in a way that is both practical and pragmatic.
Negotiations with Government have been very productive and there is an agreed position on amendments to the Armed Forces Bill, which is fully reflected in the text tabled on 8th June.
James said
“I am a supporter of the Royal British Legion, indeed I joined the Great Wakering club last month. I am pleased that the negotiations have led to amendments in the Armed Forces Bill and the covenant being honoured”
