James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, today confirms that Southend Borough Council and Essex County Council have been awarded funding to repair potholes.
The additional funding has been allocated by the Department for Transport and has been awarded to repair the damage to local roads caused by the severe weather in 2010/2011.
The budget announced that the Department for Transport have doubled the amount of additional funding being allocated to local highway authorities in England.
The £200 million of additional funding to Local Authorities has been made possible due to the efficiency savings the department has already made this year.
James said
“I am delighted that Rochford and Southend are both going to be receiving funds to tackle the issue of potholes brought about, or made worse by, the severe weather conditions we have experienced.”
“I am also pleased that all local highways have agreed to publish how this money is going to be spent”
