James Duddridge, Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, attended the 7th birthday of the Southend Leg Club.
Southend Leg Club was set up seven years ago by NHS South East Essex Community Healthcare staff and it offers the treatment for leg problems in a friendly, social setting.
In addition to the nursing staff providing the treatment, the leg club has a number of volunteers who support the staff and provide refreshments to staff and patients.
During the birthday celebrations James presented a new bariatric couch, purchased by members of the leg club, to the NHS community Healthcare Complex Leg Ulcer Team.
James said
“I was delighted to attend the 7th birthday of the Southend Leg Club. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. The relationship between volunteers, staff and patients is much more than just professional, they describe themselves as friends, and that was very clear for all to see.
“Presenting the couch to the nurses meant a lot to all the patients as they were fundamental in raising the funds which enabled the new couch to be purchased.
“The nurses were delighted with the chair and were going keen to use it straight away!
“I would also like to thank customers of Waitrose who supported the Southend Leg Club. With their support Waitrose donated £200 to the club!”
