James Duddridge MP marks countdown to London 2012 Olympic Games and urges Rochford and Southend East to get involved
With 500 Days to Go until the Olympic Games, James Duddridge MP met Olympian Jonathan Edwards and London 2012 Organising Committee Chair, Seb Coe, at the House of Commons to discuss how Rochford and Southend East can benefit from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
James Duddridge MP said:
“The 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are not just a once in a lifetime opportunity for London, but for the whole country.
With 500 days to go until the Games, I would urge everyone to start thinking about how they can get involved in the Games - whether it is local schools signing up for the Get Set education programme to be eligible for tickets, businesses registering on CompeteFor to be eligible for Games related contracts or considering what tickets they would like to apply for.
With Garons and Hadleigh being sites utilised for the Olympics I would urge constituents to apply for tickets.”
Seb Coe commented:
“The countdown to the start of London 2012 has well and truly started. In just 500 days, the greatest show on earth is coming to our country. The world’s best athletes are getting ready to compete here in a fantastic mixture of iconic and brand new venues.
We have started selling tickets at www.tickets.london2012.com and with 645 sessions over 26 different sports to choose from across, there is something for everyone.
The ticket application process is a marathon, not a sprint. Our tickets are not first come, first served so you can apply at any point until 26 April 2011. If any sessions are oversubscribed we will run a ballot as the fairest way of allocating tickets.”
Jonathan Edwards remarked:
“The Olympic and Paralympic Games will ensure that the summer of 2012 will be a UK-wide celebration of sport, culture and of our country. Right now, our athletes will be counting down their training sessions and getting ready for the once in a lifetime opportunity of competing at a home Games.
I was delighted to meet James, it’s great to see such a level of interest and enthusiasm for the 2012 Games amongst Parliamentarians from all across the UK on a cross party basis. We will be working closely together as we build towards 2012 to ensure that we can maximise the benefits presented by the Games before, during, and for many years to come.”
